The International Diplomatic Conference, held in the period 25-28 February 2020 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, approved the text establishing the organization (Kuala Lumpur Convention).<\/p>\n\n<p>The new organization succeeds the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities \/IALA\/, established in 1957 as a non-governmental organization in France. For many years IALA has been a key driver in instituting international technical standards for shipping safety.
