This year\u2019s International Day of the Seafarer, organized with the support of the Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company was marked by numerous surprises for the youngest participants and an exciting voyage across Varna Bay aboard the iconic sailing ship Kaliakra. In addition to enjoying the maritime excursion, more than 50 young seafarers received new names during the traditional seafarers\u2019 baptism ceremony officiated by King Neptune. They were also ceremonially presented with Junior Captain Seafarer\u2019s Books. Through games and entertainment, the children learned fascinating facts about the seafaring profession and its many challenges. <\/p>\n\n
The celebrations began with the Children\u2019s Sea competition, which brought together children from across the country through drawings and literary works. On the eve of the celebration, the winners of the Wake in the Sea competition, dedicated to the International Day of the Seafarer, were also officially awarded. The competition is open to people connected with the seafaring profession, as well as their family members. An exhibition featuring the entries was opened on 24 June at the premises of the Seafarers\u2019 Professional Union. <\/p>\n\n
The celebration was organized by the Initiative Committee for the International Day of the Seafarer, comprising the Seafarers\u2019 Professional Union, the Municipality of Varna, the Bulgarian Association of Marine Captains, the Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company (BPI Co.), Stargate Maritime Ltd., Slavena Publishing House Ltd., the Bulgarian Navy, the Nikola Yonkov Vaptsarov Naval Academy and several other organizations.<\/p>\n\n
The International Day of the Seafarer was officially established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to highlight the global importance of the demanding and highly responsible seafaring profession.
