Executive Director of the European Maritime Safety Agency visited the Coastal Center Varna

The Executive Director of European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) Mr. Markku Mylly visited the newly-build Coastal Center for vessel traffic management and information services for shipping in Varna on September 17, 2015. He was hosted by the Director of “Vessel Traffic Service Authority – Black Sea’ to Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company PhD Zlatko Kuzmanov.

The Coastal center is built under the project Vessel Traffic Management Information Service (VTMIS – Phase 3), financed by the ERDF on OP “Transport” 2007–2013. Project Beneficiary is the Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company (BPI Co.).

VTMIS Coastal center Varna serves the traffic in the maritime spaces of the Republic of Bulgaria to the north of Cape Emine, if necessary, can also serve the southern region.

Mr. Markku Mylly saw the newly integrated system for vessel traffic management and information services for shipping. He congratulated his Bulgarian colleagues that in Bulgaria was created a modern information system that corresponds to the European requirements, and expressed satisfaction on the implementation of the requirements of Directive 2002/59 ЕС and Directive 2010/65 ЕС.

Special attention Mr. Mylly turned to possibilities for automatic data transfer to the European information system serving the shipping and calls of ships in European ports and the connection of the system to the pan-European system for maritime safety (SafeSeaNet).

The total amount of the project Vessel Traffic Management Information Service (VTMIS – Phase 3 is 39 145 117, 96BGN. The successful implementation of the Project ensures continuous monitoring of the maritime spaces of the Republic of Bulgaria. It creates basics for increasing efficiency in sea search and rescue of vessels in distress. The information service related to protection of the sea and coastal areas are improved. The collection and provision of information necessary for the shipping to all relevant institutions has also increased. Conditions are created for maximum effective shipping business.
