Anguel Zabourtov took part in a high-level conference on multimodal transport for Europe

Mr. Anguel Zabourtov participated in a ministerial High-level Conference on European Multimodal Freight Transport – For Better Transport Connectivity, which was held on March 20, 2018 in Sofia. The Director General of Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Co. took part in the discussions on the existence of effective connections of ports with the hinterland – the most necessary condition for the development of multimodal transport. The prestigious event is an important part of the official programme of the Bulgarian presidency of the Council of the EU, since 2018 is declared a Year of Multimodality.

The Conference was opened by Ms Violeta Bulc, EU Commissioner for Transport. The event was attended by Deputy Ministers of Transport, Information Technologies and Communications of Bulgaria Mr Velik Zanchev and Mr Anguel Popov, Ministers and Deputy Ministers of Transport from countries of the Western Balkans and the EU, representatives of leading European transport and logistics companies and others. The aim of the meeting was to promote the functioning of the transport sector as a multimodal and integrated system by optimizing the use of existing capacity in all modes of transport.

The participants discussed different themes in four sessions: 1. Towards a sustainable and integrated European multimodal transport system; 2. Role of rail and port connections for efficient multimodal freight transport and logistics; 3. Multimodal challenges and opportunities for the region; 4. Sustainable funding architecture. The results of the discussions will contribute to the future formulation of EU transport policy.
