She was impressed by the level of digitalization of the port services in Bulgaria and the high technological possibilities of the river information system in the Bulgaria stretch of the River Danube – BULRIS.

The Commissioner’s working visit to Ruse included a visit to the English language school “Geo Milev”, where she met with the students-ambassadors of the European Parliament and the University “Anguel Kanchev”. Marial Gabriel held a discussion with students, lecturers, representatives of institutions and entrepreneurs on “Digital technological: opportunities and challenges” at the University.

The BULRIS system, built by BPI Co., is a communications network in line with all technical guidelines for the planning, implementation and operational use of River Information Systems (RIS) to ensure effective and safe navigation on inland waterways. BULRIS is an environment where modern electronic navigation can be implemented. The traffic monitoring systems integrated into RIS provide real-time information on both shore-based services and the required shipping safe navigation data.
