Bulgarian delegation headed by Captain Milen Todorov, Director of SDD Vessel Traffic Services Authority – Black Sea to Bulgarain Ports Infrastructure Co. participated in the establishment of the International Organization of Maritime Aids to Navigation. The International Diplomatic Conference, held in the period 25-28 February 2020 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, approved the text establishing the organization (Kuala Lumpur Convention).

The new organization succeeds the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities /IALA/, established in 1957 as a non-governmental organization in France. For many years IALA has been a key driver in instituting international technical standards for shipping safety. The intense expansion of the scale of maritime transport requires the Association to become an intergovernmental organization.
