Modern equipment for the prevention and response to operational and accidental pollution at marine and river ports will be presented in Varna

Modern equipment for the prevention and response to operational and accidental pollution at marine and river ports will be presented by Bulgarian Port Infrastructure Company in Varna. The demonstration will take place on 23.03.2022 at 2.00 p.m. at the Navigation Equipment Unit of the BPI Cо., as part of the closing event of the project for the “Delivery, Installation and Commissioning of Port Reception Facilities (PRF) at the Bulgarian public transport ports of national importance“.
 
An operation for the elimination of an oil spill and pollution, caused by floating solid waste, will be performed in conditions, resembling a real-life situation. A part of the highly specialized motor boats, delivered within the project will be launched. Booms for oil spills, light booms for solid waste, skimmers and bow collectors are among the equipment, which will be used for the demonstration. The provision of the cutting-edge facilities and equipment for participation in operation for the removal of operational and accidental pollution in port waters, will ensure for the first time, overall organization for responding to emergency pollution in all sea and river waters of the ports in Bulgaria.
 
The project was funded through Operational Programme “Transport and Transport Infrastructure” 2014 – 2020 and with national co-financing. Its implementation will bring Bulgarian ports into compliance with the EU requirements in the area of the environment, arising from the European policies and directives, as well as with the international conventions and standards in the area of water transport. The implementation of an Integrated Information Platform, forming part of the project, would substantially contribute also to cooperation between various actors along the chain, when disposing of waste by vessels.
