On May 20, 2025, Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company (BPI Co.) will officially commence the rehabilitation works on the old breakwater in the Port of Burgas. During the event, the project titled Rehabilitation of the Breakwater at Port Burgas will be formally presented. The initiative, co-financed under the Transport Connectivity” Programme 2021–2027, aims to enhance the safety and security of transport infrastructure.

The project envisages increasing the height of the breakwater and upgrading its structural components. Not only are these improvements expected to ensure calmer water conditions within the port aquatory, but also there will be an entirely new feature – a pedestrian promenade with unrestricted public access. The overarching goal is to modernize port infrastructure, enhance navigational safety, and improve the quality of port services in the Port of Burgas area. The project is being executed by the consortium TRES DZZD.

The total value of the project is approximately BGN 56 million, of which BGN 38 million are provided through the European Regional Development Fund and national co-financing. With a planned duration of 38 months, the project is expected to yield long-term benefits not only for the residents and visitors of Burgas but also for the broader economic development of the region by ensuring more efficient and secure port infrastructure.
