BPI Co. celebrates the Day of the Seafarer with a maritime baptism aboard the Kaliakra

25 Юни 2025

Once again this year, the Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company (BPI Co.) marked the International Day of the Seafarer by surprising 60 children from Varna with gifts and seafaring adventures. The young explorers embarked on a thrilling cruise around Varna Bay aboard the iconic sailing ship Kaliakra, where they received an official maritime baptism conducted by none other than King Neptune himself. In addition to being given their own playful seafaring names, the children gained valuable insight into the life of a sailor and the challenges of the maritime profession.

The celebration continued with smiles and joy, moving from sea to shore. It kicked off with the Children’s Sea creative competition, which featured drawings and literary works from children across the country. Awards were also presented for the Wake in the Sea contest, showcasing works by professional seafarers and their families. The selected entries are currently on display at the Seafarers' Union Office in Varna.

The event was organized by the Initiative Committee for the Day of the Seafarer, including the Seafarers' Professional Union, Varna Municipality, the Bulgarian Association of Maritime Captains, BPI Co., Stargate Maritime Ltd., Slavena Publishing, and Radio Varna.

The International Day of the Seafarer is officially recognized by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and aims to highlight the global importance of the seafaring profession. Celebrated every year on June 25, the day is marked by worldwide initiatives that raise public awareness of the critical role seafarers play in sustaining the global economy.
