EuRIS launches a more modern version of its portal

09 Декември 2025

A new, more modern and user-friendly version of the European inland waterway information portal EuRIS, available at www.eurisportal.eu, became operational on 9 December 2025. The design and functionalities of the updated web portal have been aligned with users’ needs, allowing them to create personalised selections and access the portal more easily from mobile devices. The new menu structure is more intuitive, and the filtering options have been expanded and made easier to use. In addition to its fresh and modern appearance, the renewed portal features multiple technical enhancements, including strengthened cybersecurity measures and updated interfaces (APIs). The complete restructuring of the portal’s layout is the result of a user survey, and users can explore the new functions through an interactive guidance tour.

The initial version of the EuRIS portal was launched in 2022 as a result of a partnership between 13 countries. Its objective is to provide easy access to static and dynamic information on more than 27,000 km of inland waterways across Europe. Thanks to the platform, skippers and other users can access real-time data and receive up-to-date information on the traffic situation along their route, including waiting times in case of incidents or disruptions. In addition to accessing data, users can also share information with other stakeholders. All of this is provided within a secure environment that ensures the privacy of all users.

Almost all information on EuRIS is publicly available for non-registered users. The number of registered accounts has grown to 6500 and continues to grow. EuRIS also provides open data via API’s allowing commercial parties to retrieve data from EuRIS and to share and visualize in their own applications. Every 24 hours, EuRIS receives over 4 million data requests to this end.

To modernise and develop the new, more intuitive version of the portal, a survey was conducted in 2024 among 769 inland waterway users. Based on the feedback received, the EuRIS partners updated and improved the web portal, and further optimisation is ongoing. Upcoming enhancements will include Single Sign On (SSO) capabilities, improved search functions and graphs, a day/night mode, information on services such as shore power and water, as well as an expansion of the fairway network. Data quality remains a constant priority.
