Eleven students are gaining practical skills and professional experience in an internship program at
SE “Port Infrastructure” (SEPI) this year.
The greatest interest is in the work of the “Vessel Traffic Management” department, which provides information services for maritime ports, maintains a coastal system for maritime radio communications and maintains round-the-clock communication between coastal services and vessels. Two are the interns who work during the summer months at the Main Directorate of SEPI in Sofia, and one – at the Territorial Division “Port of Burgas”.
This year the practicing young people are graduates of 5 higher education institutions. The interest of students from the Naval Academy “N. Y. Vaptsarov” remains constant, who have been conducting summer internships at SEPI for the past three years. For the second year, graduates of the Technical University of Varna are also practicing what they have learned in the structures of the state enterprise. For the first time this year, graduates of UNWE, Varna Free University and NBU are applying their knowledge at SEPI.
Statistics for the past three years show a sustained increase in interest in the enterprise’s activities. In 2013, the largest number were students from specialties related to communication technologies, fleet and port technology and management, and students in the field of ecology and environmental protection. In the structures of SEPI this year, future specialists in the field of civil and corporate security, construction, economics and transport management are also practicing.
In total, over the three years during which an internship program has been implemented at SEPI, twenty-four young specialists have conducted their professional practice in various units of the enterprise.
Students completing their third year or higher level of education, with excellent computer literacy and very good command of English, are eligible to participate in the program. Every year, the free student internships at SEPI begin on June 1 and last 3 months.
In 2013-2014, SEPI is a partner in the “Student Internships” project, which is implemented in partnership with all 51 higher education institutions in Bulgaria. Graduates of the Naval Academy “N.Y.
