SE PI Initiates Discussion on Partnership Prospects in Port Environmental Process Management

State Enterprise ‘Port Infrastructure’ – the Bulgarian partner in the international project TEN ECOPORT – ‘Transnational Expansion of the ECOPORT 8 Network’, presented in Burgas the opportunities for joint management and monitoring of the environmental status in the port area.

Project activities are implemented jointly by teams from Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Romania, Albania, Croatia, and Montenegro, covering 14 European ports. The focus is on the environmental impact issues arising from various economic and social activities in port areas and urbanized zones near ports. As part of the first phase of the project, a port network was established for the exchange of experience, research, and initiatives related to the introduction of environmental criteria in port activity management.

The ‘TEN ECOPORT’ project emphasizes the need to engage all stakeholders to achieve a greater impact through coordinated efforts, which directly aligns with the European Commission’s understanding of an integrated maritime policy.

As part of the project, forums are being held today and tomorrow in Burgas and Varna to discuss the possibilities for establishing a permanent body with advisory functions regarding the sustainable management of environmental processes in Black Sea ports. The SE PI team is presenting the analyses of critical environmental points in ports and the model for joint management of environmental processes developed within the project.

Project TEN ECOPORT – ‘Transnational Expansion of the ECOPORT 8 Network’ is funded by the Transnational Operational Programme ‘South East Europe 2007 – 2013’.
