A Project for Environmental Protection in Southeast European Ports Has been Completed.

Georgi Todorov, Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications, welcomed the participants in the final conference of the international project TEN ECOPORT “Transnational Expansion of the ECOPORT 8 Network,” which is being held today in Varna.

The project is implemented by State Enterprise “Port Infrastructure” and brings together participants from 7 other countries.

“In recent years, ports have been the focus of the main regional transport policies of the European Union,” said Deputy Minister Todorov. He added that water transport is an important condition for increasing the competitiveness of the economies of Southeast European countries, and in particular, the partner countries in the project.

“I hope that the models developed within the project will become an important tool for ensuring the prosperity of all partners, but with responsibility towards the future and the environment,” stated Georgi Todorov. In conclusion, he expressed his confidence that this will be only the first successful project that will lay the foundation for long-term and fruitful cooperation.

The TEN ECOPORT project “Transnational Expansion of the ECOPORT 8 Network” has a total value of 2,284,282 euros and is funded by the Transnational Operational Programme Southeast Europe 2007–2013. The main goal of the project is to create a common model for environmental protection in the ports of Southeast Europe, to achieve sustainable development, and to ensure free access to maritime transport networks.
