Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company once again brought joy to children with gifts and festive spirit on the occasion of Seafarer’s Day. On the day of celebration, youngsters from the Varna Municipal Children’s Complex learned interesting facts about the seafaring profession.
Captain Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov, maritime ambassador of the International Maritime Organization for Bulgaria, introduced them to the importance of sea transportation and the educational opportunities at Varna Maritime High School “St. Nicholas the Wonderworker” and Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy. Fully immersed in the festive atmosphere, the little sailors had the opportunity to take an exciting yacht and pilot boat ride around Varna Bay. Afterward, a new fun adventure awaited them aboard the pirate ship “Pinta”.
The event was organized by the Initiative Committee for the International Day of the Seafarer – Varna Municipality, Seafarers’ Professional Union, and Bulgarian Association of Sea Captains. The event was held with the support of BPI Co., EAMA, “Pilot Station Varna” Ltd., Varna Party Boats, Naval Academy, Maritime Professional High School, and yachtsmen Svilen Doykov and Yuriy Stankov.
The International Day of the Seafarer was officially declared a holiday by the International Maritime Organization and aims to highlight globally the importance of the seafaring profession and its significance. Each year on this day, various initiatives are held worldwide to give the general public an understanding of seafarers’ enormous contribution to the global economy.
