DPPI Introduces New Electronic Service for Access to Spatial Data for Ports

As of October 23, 2014, State Enterprise “Port Infrastructure” introduces a new electronic service for access to data from the Geographic Information System of port infrastructure. The system maintains current data on the condition of infrastructure, areas, buildings, facilities, road and railway terminals, warehouses, adjacent water areas and other objects on the territory of public transport ports of national significance of the Republic of Bulgaria.

DPPI put the system into operation at the end of August 2014. The Geographic Information System of port infrastructure was built within the framework of a project financed by Operational Programme “Transport” 2007-2013, worth over 4.5 million leva.

GIS technology enables the accumulated data and information to be used for specific research, resource management, regional and territorial planning, as well as for economic modeling of processes. It is envisaged that after the creation of the National Portal for Spatial Data, the GIS system of port infrastructure will support data exchange with the geoportal of the infrastructure for spatial information in the EU (INSPIRE).

The use of the electronic service is free of charge, and access is granted by submitting an application-declaration, which can be downloaded from the website of the State Enterprise “Port Infrastructure” (www.bgports.bg). When submitting the application, it should be specified for the area of activity of which of the territorial divisions of SEPI access is to be granted. The application is submitted to the office of the Head Office of SEPI at the following address: 1574 Sofia, 69 Shipchenski Prohod Blvd., 4th floor, by fax: 02/8079966 or a scanned copy is sent to the email address: office@bgports.bg“.
