A second project of the Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company (BPI Co.) has been approved and will be implemented under the Transport Connectivity Program 2021-2027
The duration of the breakwater rehabilitation project at the Port of Burgas is 38 months, and the grant funding provided under the program is slightly over BGN 38,000,000
A tender procedure for selecting a contractor has already been announced
The project implementation aims at reconstructing and modernizing the old breakwater in Burgas, which over the years has become severely compromised and structurally damaged due to various external factors, mainly natural phenomena such as strong winds, large waves, and damaged armor made of artificial elements
The project includes increasing the height of the breakwater and renovating its structural elements. Through the project implementation, not only will the breakwater’s primary function of ensuring calm water surface in the port area of Burgas be improved, but an entirely new functionality will be added – a pedestrian walkway with free access
The planned project activities will lead to an overall improvement of port infrastructure, ensuring greater safety of navigation and port facilities, as well as contributing to achieving higher quality port services in the Burgas port area
