A Specialized Vessel Will Perform Systematic Scanning of the Danube Riverbed

Within the project “Creation of a River Information System in the Bulgarian part of the Danube River – BULRIS”, funded under the Operational Programme “Transport” 2007-2013, the implementation of a system for monitoring and scanning the riverbed condition has begun.

The new system will enable thorough examination of the riverbed using multibeam echo-sounders. It provides a comprehensive picture of both the depths and the type of bottom sediments, the dynamics of processes, the presence of various artificial and natural objects on the riverbed surface, and numerous other phenomena that remained unknown in previous studies with conventional echo sounders. Systematic riverbed monitoring is important for both navigation safety and maintenance activities of port infrastructure and water area.

The value of the signed contract is 2,845,000.00 BGN. The funds are provided by the European Regional Development Fund and the state budget through the Operational Programme “Transport” 2007-2013.
