BULGARIAN PORTS NOW HAVE AN ELECTRONIC DOSSIER

The State Enterprise “Port Infrastructure” has begun a series of presentations on the geographic information system for managing port infrastructure.

The system was developed with funding from the Operational Program “Transport” 2007 – 2013 and covers twenty-eight sea and river ports and port terminals, as well as individual areas within the ports, including the two important shipping channels 1 and 2 in the Port of Varna area.

Within the project, all registers maintained by the SEPI, property documents, and other acts related to port infrastructure, sketches, and maps have been digitized. The developed geographic information system provides the opportunity to analyze information about ports for public transport of national importance, to optimize the management of state assets in port infrastructure, as well as more effective planning of funds for maintenance and modernization of Bulgarian ports as part of the European Union’s transport network.

Spatial data on the infrastructure of ports of national importance for public transport will be accessible through the National Spatial Data Portal, which is being developed and maintained by the Executive Agency “Electronic Communication Networks and Information Systems” and through it with the geoportal of the spatial information infrastructure in the European Community (INSPIRE).

Project №BG161PO004-5.0.01-0059 “Design and Implementation of a Geographic Information System (GIS) for Port Infrastructure Management,” funded by EU funds through the Operational Program “Transport” 2007-2013 under priority axis 5 “Technical Assistance,” has a total value of 4,703,728.60 BGN and is financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the state budget of the Republic of Bulgaria through the Operational Program “Transport” 2007 – 2013.

By the end of the project, seminars to present the capabilities of the geographic information system are scheduled to be held in Burgas, Vidin, Ruse, and Sofia.
