A delegation from the Ministry of Fisheries, River Economy and Waterways of the Republic of the Congo visited the River Information Services Center in Ruse to learn more about the advanced capabilities of BulRIS.
Experts from the Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company presented the digital technologies that support navigation along the Bulgarian section of the Danube and enable the exchange of information between vessels, operators and the relevant authorities.
The delegation was also introduced to BPI Co.’s projects for improving multimodal transport links and developing greener, more sustainable port infrastructure. Planned investment in intermodal transport at the Port of Ruse includes the construction of a Ro-La terminal, which will allow lorries to be transported by rail. Bulgaria’s inland ports are also set to provide shore-side electricity for vessels at berth.
The visit gave the delegates an opportunity to learn from Bulgaria’s experience in vessel traffic management and port infrastructure development, with a view to adapting relevant practices for the Congo River.
The programme also included a visit to the Port of Ruse and meetings with the authorities responsible for the development of inland waterway transport.
