Rehabilitation of Open Storage Areas behind the Northern Quay at the Ruse-East Port Terminal

The open storage areas behind the northern quay in the area of the coal crushing installation at the Ruse-East port terminal are covered with asphalt concrete pavement on a rolled crushed stone base and are primarily used for storing bulk cargo (coke, coal, ore, and others). Due to long-term use and intensive loading of the open storage areas, the asphalt concrete pavement is severely compromised and missing in places, resulting in deep depressions. The remaining part is cracked and has varying depths of subsidence. This hinders the operation of the portal quay machinery with a grab, as part of the pavement is removed during the handling of bulk cargo. In this section, there is no possibility for mechanized or manual cleaning of the storage area after processing a batch. The shortage of storage areas and the constant increase in cargo handled in this section necessitate the rehabilitation of the open storage areas, consisting of repair, excavation, formwork, and reinforcement works, concrete laying, and other types of construction and installation works.
