The Geographic Information System /GIS/ of the port infrastructure was distinguished in the top three of this year’s finalists in the “IT Project of the Year” competition. The competition is organized for the 11th time by IST Media Group and the Computerworld newspaper.
The GIS of the port infrastructure was developed in implementation of the project “Design and implementation of a geographic information system /GIS/ for management of the port infrastructure”, financed with EU funds through the Operational Program “Transport” 2007–2013 /OPT/ under priority axis 5 “Technical Assistance”.
Fourteen organizations and institutions competed for the awards in this year’s edition of the competition for the best projects implemented in the public sector.
The geographic information system of the port infrastructure, built within the framework of the project, provides an opportunity to analyze information about ports for public transport of national importance, to optimize the management of state assets in the port infrastructure, as well as for more effective planning of funds for maintenance and modernization of Bulgarian ports as part of the transport network of the European Union. The system is available through the website of SE “Port Infrastructure” – www.bgports.bg.
The SEIS GIS is implemented by the GeoPort Consortium, which unites the companies TechnoLogica, Intergraph Italia and Geotechnoengineering. The honorary diploma was received by the General Director of SEIS, Mr. Angel Zaburtov.
In 2013, another project, implemented by SEIS in its capacity as a beneficiary under the OP “Transport” 2007 – 2013 – “Creation of a river information system in the Bulgarian part of the Danube River – BULRIS”, was awarded in the “IT Project of the Year” competition.
