The Third Stage of Development of the VTMIS Vessel Traffic Management System Has Begun

Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company (BPIC) has signed a contract with Translink Consortium for construction works, delivery and installation of equipment to expand the vessel traffic management system.

The system development is being implemented under the project “Vessel Traffic Management Information System (VTMIS) – Phase 3”, funded by the ERDF and the state budget through the Operational Programme “Transport” 2007-2013.

The contractor was selected through an open procedure under the Public Procurement Act and is expected to complete the assigned activities by mid-2014. The contract value amounts to 27,735,686.00 BGN (excluding VAT).

With the financial support of the PHARE programme and the Dutch government, the main part of the vessel traffic management system in the maritime spaces of the Republic of Bulgaria was built during 2000-2008. The currently operating surveillance and control facilities cover the waters of Varna and Burgas bays.

The project “Vessel Traffic Management Information System (VTMIS) – Phase 3” plans to expand and complete the system to include all Bulgarian Black Sea ports, bays, channels, and navigable lakes.

A national center for electronic document management in maritime transport will also be established, which will practically implement the principles of e-governance in the water transport sector.

The total value of the project “Vessel Traffic Management Information System (VTMIS) – Phase 3” is 39,145,117.96 BGN.
