Deputy Minister Petar Kirov Launched the Construction of a New Coastal Center at the Port of Burgas

Approximately BGN 2 million are being invested in the construction of a new coastal center at the Port of Burgas. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technologies and Communications, Petar Kirov, during the official launch of the construction activities at the site.

The event was attended by the Mayor of Burgas Municipality, Dimitar Nikolov, the General Director of the State Enterprise “Port Infrastructure”, Angel Zaburtov, and representatives of institutions and companies from the maritime sector.

“Thanks to the Operational Programme “Transport”, over BGN 30 million are being invested in the development of the Vessel Traffic Management Information System (VTMIS)”, said Petar Kirov. According to him, the project contributes to improving the safety of navigation and fulfilling Bulgaria’s obligation as a member state of the European Union.

As a result of the implementation of the third phase of the project, the currently functioning part of it will be expanded to cover the entire coastline and allow for the integration of all communication subsystems into a unified national maritime information system. A “National Center for Electronic Document Circulation for Maritime Transport (“one-stop shop”) will also be created.

The construction of the coastal center in Burgas is part of one of the lots of the project. Its architecture is in line with the appearance of the new marine station, which is located in close proximity to it. The currently operating coastal center is located in a building built in 1997 as a roadstead post of the Port of Burgas. As a result of many years of operation, the maximum load on its main structure has been reached, and this does not allow any future expansions. This necessitates the construction of a new coastal center that meets the latest requirements.
