State Enterprise “Port Infrastructure” Presented the Geographic Information System to Specialists in Ruse

State Enterprise “Port Infrastructure” (SEPI) presented the already implemented geographic information system (GIS) for public transport ports of national significance to journalists, maritime industry specialists and experts from state institutions in the city of Ruse.

Over 50 people, including representatives of the Executive Agency “Maritime Administration”, Border Police and the municipality in the city, became acquainted with the capabilities and capacity that the system offers in real time. Trained experts from State Enterprise “Port Infrastructure” demonstrated how the GIS functions, showing how in minutes, through a few mouse clicks, any user can find the necessary information. For comparison, before the creation and implementation of the geographic information system, finding the same information required at least two days for bureaucratic procedures.

The seminar presented the rules for access to the different levels of the system. Experts from SEPI explained that the data in the geographic information system is continuously updated, and every user can see the latest date of changes. The services are free and available to everyone who needs this type of information, the state enterprise further explained.

The system was built within the framework of project № BG161PO004-5.0.01-0059 “Design and implementation of a geographic information system (GIS) for port infrastructure management” with a total value of 4,703,728.60 BGN. The project is financed by the European Regional Development Fund and from the state budget of the Republic of Bulgaria through Operational Programme “Transport” 2007 – 2013 under priority axis 5 “Technical assistance”. The beneficiary of the project is State Enterprise “Port Infrastructure”.

The project started with the preparation of a comprehensive analysis of existing information systems and databases in State Enterprise “Port Infrastructure”, proceeded through the design of the geographic information system, processing of existing data and registers, development of new cadastral and specialized maps for objects and territories, and development of application software. Hardware, software and communication infrastructure has already been built, and the entire geographic information system has been installed and integrated. The experts of SEPI, whose activities are directly related to the maintenance and use of data from the system, have undergone specialized training.

The main activities of the project were carried out by Consortium “GeoPort” (an association of “TechnoLogica” JSC, “Intergraph Italia” Ltd and “Geotechnoengineering” Ltd). Monitoring and control of implementation were assigned to “BITMAP” Ltd.
