The Quay Wall of the Ruse-West Terminal is Being Reconstructed with Funds from OP “Transport” 2007 – 2013.

The rehabilitation of the quay wall at the entrance of the Ruse-West port terminal continues. The reconstruction of the facility, which began at the end of 2013, is part of the large-scale project “Establishment of a river information system in the Bulgarian part of the Danube River – BULRIS”.

A complete reconstruction of the facility is planned, which is located in close proximity to the river information services center under construction. In the preparatory phase, cracks, caverns and visible deformations were recorded on the existing quay wall. A defect list has been compiled and suitable technological solutions have been selected for the restoration and complete rehabilitation of the facility. The existing inclined quay wall will be partially destroyed, with the upper 3-4 meters being built vertically and the structure being reinforced.

The seismic intensity of the area in which the RIS center is being built and the adjacent quay wall is being reconstructed is of the eighth degree, and this requires specific measures to increase the stability of the buildings and facilities. The technological solution combines the requirements for the stability of the coastal part, given the building under construction in the vicinity, a better opportunity for mooring vessels and maintaining the functions for protecting port facilities and the coast against ice drift. The length of the new reconstructed quay wall is approx. 145 meters.

It is planned to install specialized equipment along the quay: equipment for safe mooring of vessels, ship power supply, lighting and water supply, including for fire fighting needs. Pedestrian access at high water from a vessel to the crown of the quay and back will be via a pontoon.

The reconstruction of the quay wall is an element of the project “Establishment of a river information system in the Bulgarian part of the Danube River – BULRIS”, which is worth a total of BGN 35,378,913.72, provided by the European Regional Development Fund and the national budget through the Operational Program “Transport” 2007 – 2013. The beneficiary of the grant is the State Enterprise “Port Infrastructure”. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.
