Flower seeds in exchange for plastic bottles for recycling – with this green initiative the Bulgarian Ports Infrastructure Company marked the International Danube Day in Ruse.
In just a few hours, employees of the company collected a significant quantity of plastic waste from residents and visitors to the city. More than 200 participants received packets of flower seeds carrying a message encouraging greater care for nature and a cleaner Danube.
The initiative, held under the motto I Keep the Danube Blue, aims to promote public engagement in environmental protection and the preservation of Europe’s second longest river. It draws attention to the personal responsibility of each individual and demonstrates how small yet consistent actions can contribute to a more sustainable environment. By encouraging people to plant new life, the campaign conveys a message of care for nature and responsibility towards future generations.
The International Danube Day is traditionally celebrated every year on 29 June with the aim of raising public awareness of the importance of protecting the Danube River and its tributaries.
