The International Maritime Station in Burgas Awaits its First Passengers

The State Acceptance Commission completed its work by signing Act Form 16 according to the Spatial Development Act. The commission includes representatives of the contracting authority – State Enterprise “Port Infrastructure”,

construction supervision of the site, representatives of the contractor – Consortium “Technomashprogress – TVP” and specialized control bodies.

In accordance with the requirements of the Spatial Development Act, the contracting authority created all necessary conditions and provided the experts with all available documentation, in view of the operational and precise work of the state acceptance commission. After conducting a 72-hour test under operational conditions, a use permit will be issued for the International Maritime Station – Burgas, which, according to the requirements of the law, will be received by the contracting authority. The constructed international maritime station is a first category building, which includes objects of the highest degree of significance. The authority for issuing the use permit is the Directorate for National Construction Control (DNCC).

The new maritime station is built on DPPI land, on the territory of Burgas-East port, and with the new building, the formation of a passenger terminal practically begins, opening the city to the sea, relocating industrial activities, and restructuring the coastal industrial area into an attractive leisure zone.

The construction is financed by the State Enterprise “Port Infrastructure” as the first step in realizing the large-scale project “Super Burgas – Public Access Zone”. The development of the space is associated with the relocation of port activities carried out by the port operator in the area of the former berths 1 and 2.

The maritime station should be connected to the rest of the future passenger terminal area via a newly designed street that runs parallel along the breakwater. The overall architectural solution provides suitable locations for taxi stands and for stopping and parking of tourist buses, construction of sidewalks and pathway networks.

The building’s layout takes into account expectations for the docking of the largest cruise ships with an average of 3,000 passengers on board. The first of these is expected to dock at the new maritime station on October 5, 2013. The spatial distribution complies with the requirements for border checks on persons crossing the state border of the Republic of Bulgaria in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 562/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 15 March 2006 establishing a Community Code on the rules governing the movement of persons across borders (Schengen Borders Code). The desire for the International Maritime Station building to be able to provide opportunities for developing other public functions (organizing exhibitions, cultural events and activities) beyond its main function has also been taken into account.

The total value of the funds that SE “Port Infrastructure” is investing in the international maritime station in Burgas amounts to 3,298,000 BGN and is planned in the company’s annual program, approved by the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications.

By the end of the month, SE “Port Infrastructure” will transfer the International Maritime Station – Burgas facility for operation to the port operator “Port of Burgas” EAD.
